Huge congratulations to all the SPM leavers out there. No matter what results you received, be it good or bad, you did your best and you should be proud of it.
YES YOU SHOULD.
It’s absolutely awesome if you got that strings of A’s.
Good news! you’ve found something you’re good at!
Even if you don’t, it’s completely fine because you are definitely installed for something different which you’re more capable at!
******************
Somehow in secondary school life,
You always heard about that senior who got a prestigious scholarship studying in a foreign country living the best life ever you can imagined.
There's always this genius who's busy entering top universities like Cambridge or Harvard with full scholarship being top in maths, science subject and everything. yes, just everything.
All these ' good news' you heard from others
sometimes just don't make real sense to you.
Studying overseas has always been my dream.
but that dream just seems so distant to me .
If you feel the same too, fret not, you're not alone.
Of course, I want scholarships.
I need scholarships.
***
So here's how I made it in 2016,
securing myself with 3 overseas full scholarships and 1 local scholarship.
I have nothing to boast about,
we all start from humble beginnings.
This sounds cliche, but if I can do it,
you can too.
1. APPLY
It's the easiest way to start but a lot of SPM leavers out there just don't want to give themselves that chance to try. Please, I beg you, APPLY. Apply any scholarships you can find (provided you fulfil their criteria) and never procrastinate. NEVER. You miss the deadline, you miss your whole life. HAHA
Kind reminder: never cheat about your household income or results or whatsoever.
Be fair to the underprivileged.
Do your own research on the courses offered.
Spend some time on you personal statement as well if required and please write your email correctly. I have friends who claimed that they didn't receive any replies cz they probably wrote the email incorrectly.
Well, you don't wanna be people like that.
2. CHECK YOUR EMAIL
After submitting all your applications, refresh your emails everyday because some sponsors might need you to complete online tests as the preliminary stage. You will also receive emails asking you for interviews which you need to plan ahead if you happened to be the person they want to know more. Interviews will be held normally in the city (KL).
3. ANSWER EVERY UNKNOWN PHONE NUMBER
Some sponsors just love to call the students to inform all the details before sending them the email.
You miss the call, you miss your whole life again.
Just kidding haha.
If you really happened to miss their call, always call them back.
(common sense but I still need to reiterate, just in case).
Tips: Never put your phone on silent mode throughout that critical period
If you made it to the interview stage, CONGRATS! WOOHOO!
Here are some real tips to shine in a scholarship interview:
(learnt some of it from my friends)
1. SMILE
There's nothing to be sad about. So, please smile genuinely throughout the interview.
( no plastic stewardess smiles allowed )
2. BE HUMBLE
No matter how good you are in everything, don't boast about it. Don't utter your long lists of achievements to them. If you've reach this stage, they are not interested with your results anymore.
They just want to hear your stories. What makes you different from others?
3. BE HONEST
Never crack any fake achievements you have just to please them. It's not worth it.
Be genuine, be honest. We like people like that, don't we?
4. RELATE YOUR PERSONAL LIFE EXPERIENCES
Stories. Tell them true stories and experiences.
Relate them with your personal character. For instance, why are you a responsible person?
Relate a past experience.
5.ENJOY
It's hard not to be stressed out but I'm strongly encouraging you to enjoy the whole process!
Find joy in it regardless of the results!
At the end of the day, it's not about the results that matter the most
but how much you've learnt throughout the whole process!
You don't need to be the top smarties in school to get a scholarship. ( proven in reality )
There are many different scholarships out there with different criteria.
Some doesn't need you to have straight A's.
So,
Don't let your doubts overwhelmed you.
Challenge yourself today!
Trust me,
Full scholarships are more than just a dream!
Every scholarship varies in terms of their selection process.
I couldn't really pen down specific scholarship details.

Humbly with love,
